Meet Adrianne Chivers, the AFI Conservatory’s New Alumni Affairs Manager

The AFI Conservatory is proud to welcome Adrianne Chivers as the new Manager of Alumni Affairs. As a former film student herself, she brings a unique perspective to her new role at AFI, and looks forward to bringing that firsthand knowledge to serving the AFI alumni community.

This March, she brought to the Conservatory seven years of experience in Alumni Relations at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), her alma mater, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Film Production. A Los Angeles native, Chivers also holds a Master’s degree in Telecommunications and Critical Studies of Film & TV from California State University, Los Angeles.

“I’ve gone to film school and been part of an amazing program at a great university that I still love and where I still serve,” she said, referring to her position on the LMU Alumni Association Board of Directors. “I am a film school alum, and I know how cricital it is to have the support of your alma mater. I am already bursting at the seams with thoughts and ideas about how to translate my background to my new role at AFI.”

Chivers said she feels inspired by the “Transition to Industry” program led by AFI Screenwriting Discipline Head Anna Thomas, which prepares graduating Fellows for a real-world career in the industry. “That excites me so much, and I see t ... SHOW MORE

“That excites me so much, and I see this as a template for how we can bridge the gap from graduation to the workforce. It seems like such an amazing platform,” Chivers said.

While at LMU, Chivers spearheaded engagement for the African American Alumni Association and supported efforts of the Latino American Alumni Association. She also managed alumni special events, including reunions and professional-development mixers.

0utside of her day job, Chivers has also maintained her filmmaker roots, working as an independent producer, including on inspirational video content for the Passion for Christ Movement (P4CM) performance arts YouTube channel. Serving as Executive Production Manager for the channel, Chivers manages production shoots and outreach, and builds partner relationships to support P4CM’s diverse slate of web series, from panel discussions to music performances.

Chivers is also a cinephile at heart. “I am a huge Alfred Hitchcock fan. My favorite movie is VERTIGO,” she said. “I also love movies like LOVE & BASKETBALL, because it’s where I’m from, and full of places that are very LA.”

But one thing she’d like you to know about her? “I would love alums to know that I am them, so I get them,” she said. “Between my years of work experience, and having been in their shoes, I have an inside knowledge of what film school alumni need to feel represented and supported, and with that, I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue to nurture this already amazing community.”
