Realm Pictures International is interviewing for Directors of Photography, Production Designers, Costume Designers and Composers for our theatrical feature Steal Away. Based on Andrew Ward’s post-Civil War epic “Dark Midnight When I Rise”, Steal Away will feature sweeping cinematography, production design, costume design and an epic soundtrack.

Principal photography is scheduled to commence March 2023 in Atlanta, GA (USA). Applicants from all countries are being considered, irrespective of current union status.

“AN INTENT TO THE SPIRIT” [Short Film]

SYNOPSIS:

Rashid is a queer graduate student from Tanzania in his late 20s living in New York City. When his beloved aunt Maryam and her girlfriend Sheila come to visit him, he and Sheila go out dancing in the city, leading to nights spent together in a hotel. What at first glance is a possible betrayal, then an exploration of desire and queerness, is ultimately revealed to be something more nuanced, beautiful and complicated; a story about commitment, love, and the unconventional ways family is created.

Ida B. Wells Short Film Fund:

 

The Ida B. Wells Fund is brought to you by Chromatic Black. Chromatic Black™ is a collective of 10,000+ Black artists – activists across a spectrum of creative disciplines. They are storytellers, and use their artistic platforms – art, education, film, television, live and digital entertainment – to bring about cultural change.

 

Chromatic Black™ supports projects that are reflective and illustrative of the theme of Disrupting the Master Narrative by offering partners accompaniment, funding, legal support, technical assistance, audience development support, artist retreats and gatherings, as well as connectivity to a broader collective of creative pioneers.

 

The fund will invest in five projects that critique dominant social and historical narratives and embody artistic attributes: commitment, communal meaning, disruption, cultural integrity emotional experience, risk-taking, coherence, openness, stickiness and resourcefulness. The Short Film Fund will support five filmmakers at $15,000 each.

WAVE Grant awards five women filmmakers $5,000 seed funding to direct their first short film. The grant program offers mentorship and support to emerging, talented, young female filmmakers of color that may not otherwise have the resources to complete their first short film. At Wavelength, we champion creating a pipeline for women of color in the film industry. Filmmakers in our program have moved on to work for Netflix, FX, and more, in addition to receiving offers to submit to the Sundance Screenwriting Program.

Operation Street Kidz is hosting its first script producing competition and is looking for submissions! Thanks to funding from La Plaza de Cultura y Artes’ Eastside Arts Initiative, as well as a partnership with Two Seas Media, we are looking to produce short films from Mexican American writers located in and around the Los Angeles area. Thanks to our partners and their contributions, we are now able to produce high quality, low budget short films that will provide aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to take that first big step as creators!

The Black List is thrilled to announce that it has once again partnered with NRDC’s (Natural Resources Defense Council) Rewrite the Future program, The Redford Center, and The CAA Foundation to launch a second iteration of the NRDC Climate Storytelling Fellowship.
 
The Fellowship will grant $20,000 each to three writers to support revision of a feature screenplay or pilot that engages with climate change in a meaningful way through events, actions, character, emotions, plot, and/or setting.
 
The first 400 writers that opt in with a qualified screenplay or pilot will receive one free month of hosting and one free evaluation. If you meet these criteria when you opt in, you will receive a notification.
 
Evaluations purchased before midnight on October 30, 2022 will be guaranteed consideration.

WRITEGIRL IS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS! Support the voices of teens in Los Angeles! Volunteer as a writing mentor or help behind the scenes in supporting the work that WriteGirl and Bold Ink Writers are doing to inspire teens to develop their creativity and writing skills! WriteGirl (www.writegirl.org) is a creative writing and mentoring organization that empowers underserved teen girls in Los Angeles through mentoring relationships with women writers, hosting large-scale writing workshops at such places as the Huntington Gardens, The Autry and LACMA. Since 2001, WriteGirl has maintained a 100% success rate in guiding girls to not only graduate from high school, but also enroll in college.
