Antigravity Academy’s Screenwriters Camp is a program designed to support
emerging filmmakers (or writing teams) as they develop their first feature.

 

The Screenwriters Camp consists of a week-long residential intensive in May, followed by a series of virtual sessions and a period of industry exposure. Upon completion, participants will have a new draft of their screenplay and a lasting place within the Antigravity Academy community, along with expanded industry connections to help carry their projects forward.

JULIA S. GOUW SHORT FILM CHALLENGE

In 2022, CAPE joined forces with Janet Yang Productions to form the Julia S. Gouw Short Film Challenge to provide short film production grants to four filmmakers in an effort to support Asian and Pacific Islander Women and Non-Binary filmmakers and their stories. The grant is supported and named after philanthropist Julia S. Gouw with additional support from Asian Women Leadership in Philanthropy Fund.

 

Four grantees are provided with a grant of $25K USD each as well as additional resources to make their short film possible. In addition, the grantees will be offered unparalleled networking opportunities with Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning Hollywood producer Janet Yang and the CAPE network as well as access to high-level industry professionals including agents, managers, producers and studio executives and more. ... This award category is open to both DGA and non-DGA Theatrical Feature Film Directors.Film Eligibility:A feature-length film is defined as more than 40 minutes.The film must be released in a paid admission commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles or New York during the period of January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025.The film must be theatrically exhibited for at least seven (7) consecutive days and be advertised and exploited during its Los Angeles or New York qualifying run in a manner customary with industry practice.International films that meet these criteria are eligible. Non-English language submissions must be subtitled in English.Feature films that are exhibited theatrically and exhibited or distributed simultaneously (“day-and-date”) on any other platforms are not eligible.

 

Feature films exhibited or distributed on free television, a pay cable service, Internet, DVD or any other format or delivery system in the continental United States prior to theatrical release are not eligible.Re-releases, animated films, and documentaries are not eligible.

    Credit:

    • The Director must have exercised all traditional theatrical feature film directorial functions in connection with original photography and received an on-screen “Directed By” credit.

Eligibility Requirements: To be considered for the program, you must be:

 

  • From and living in Africa
  • Experienced in nonfiction/documentary filming and editing
  • Ability to receive funds from US-based clients (ex: Paypal, bank wire transfer, Venmo, Zelle, Western Union).
  • Access to and experience with editing equipment and software (ex: Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci).
  • Access to camera equipment
  • Access to a stable internet connection
  • Care deeply about social impact and creating films that spark positive change.
  • Collaborative, open to learning, and willing to engage in community — this is a cross-cultural filmmaking program.
  • A deep desire to learn and grow as a filmmaker and help other storytellers grow as well.
  • A time commitment of 2 hours per week, in addition to production time, during the program for community building, knowledge exchange, and peer support.
